Help with alternative ideas for Fireworks Night!
We welcome any ideas you may have regarding fundraising - in particular regarding Fireworks Night as from 2013 we may no longer be able to hold the firework event at the school.

How about a Bald Archie competition? The children create a portrait of themselves or someone they admire, we create a gallery in the school hall and sell tickets to the event - maybe cheese and wine included in the ticket price.
ReplyDeleteWe could enlist a local artist to vote the best for each stage.
(Middle Harbour school do this very successfully)
Could we still do the fireworks night but without all the rides? Or put some of the rides near the school office and on the multi purpose court?
ReplyDeleteWe love the fireworks as this is the only time of the year my children get to see them as we are never in Sydney for NYE, we also have friends from other local schools who come along, it's an event we look forward to.
Fireworks night can't go! It's been such a beautiful family event for more than 30 yrs! It's a community tradition, seriously what are you thinking!
ReplyDeleteKids don't need the poorly maintained mechanical rides that cost a small fortune to hire then don't actually work on the night... There are so many different inflatable entertainment options such as slides, obstacle courses, jumping castle all of which would have minimal environmental impact on the school grounds especially the fake grass. Also if you asked the kids forgo all rides just to save the fireworks night i'm sure they would! Any changes to historic school events should definitely involve the children. They need to have a say as this is really their event that they share with their family, friends and the greater community.
I just asked my kids last night what they would suggest as we won't be able to have the usual big rides - and they said "more inflatables" would be great - they don't mind losing the large rides. Don't forget though that we raised a bit of money from the ride tickets, and if you add this to the fact that we currently don't have a school sponsor to gift us the fireworks (so we have to buy them) do we need to look at other things that can attract extra fundraising ops?
