The next P&C meeting will take place in the School Hall at 7.30pm on Monday 18th March. This will be a regular meeting and not the AGM, and there are several important items on the agenda. We would encourage you to come along if you are interested in these topics and welcome everyone's thoughts.
Agenda includes:
1. Security Issues. Shanti has invited a Security Director from the Dept of Education's Security Unit to join us. He will talk to us about policies and also about the advice given to the school in relation to vandalism and potential solutions. This will be an excellent opportunity for us to hear from the Security Dept and to ask questions.
2. Priorities for funding in 2013. The P&C funds come from tireless fundraising by all families in the school so come along and have your say about where this money should be spent.
3. Fundraising:-
Easter
Options for Fireworks Night this year
Preliminary details about this year's Major Fundraiser
4. Principal's Report.
5. Environment update.
6. Uniform Shop - initial conversations about considering an on-line option.
If you are not able to attend the meeting but would like to submit a question or comment, then please email your class parent or Ros Van Extel, the P&C Class Parent Coordinator (on rosvanextel@hotmail.com), or make a comment on the blog - some comments have already been made, which is great. Join a conversation thread or start your own.
This year, we have a revised Federation of P&C's handbook and Beauty Point, in it's historically relaxed manner, has not been 'officially' running the P&C in the way intended in the regulations.
One of these requirements is that whilst everyone at the school and anyone who lives in our catchment area has an open invitation to attend a P&C meeting to listen and air their views, only official P&C Members can vote on a decision. It's not an onerous task - you attend a meeting and pay $1, this ensures your financial membership and you can then vote on decisions at your next meeting. This will mean that officially voting on decisions can't take place on Monday night but it won't stop the discussions. It will mean that for our AGM we will all be able to vote.
We hope to see you on Monday night and if you want to become a paid up voting member please bring $1 (no cheques thanks).
The next P&C meeting will be held on 18th March, 7.30pm in the school hall.
Please use the comment box below to request anything to be added the the agenda, or speak to you class parent.
I think it might be useful to have further discussion on the hall IT equipment upgrade. I'm not totally convinved that the cost is justifiable at the moment and that there might be more pressing needs. But I don't know what anyone else thinks and I'm very new to all of this.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested in further exploration of the implications of large class sizes as I remain concerned that it does matter and that an additional resource might make a valuable difference to many classes in the school.
At the end of the last meeting, I was left a little uncertain about whether Shanti is planning to request a resource from the Dept or whether she was confident that it was not an issue.
Can these 3 points be added to the agenda to be discussed?
I hope all of these questions have now been addressed at the last 2 meetings? Please let me know if they haven't.
DeleteWhat is the hall IT equipment upgrade? Do you know how much we would need for this? Sorry, haven't read the minutes yet. But agree with what you are saying, there seems more pressing things to spend PandC money on. I will come to the next meeting.
ReplyDeleteAdam is building this into the 3 year plan for the school.
DeleteWill the agenda be posted on the blog? If I can't make the meeting how can I put forward my views?
ReplyDeleteHow can I add something to the P&C agenda?
ReplyDeleteHi, you can add it here and the P & c president can take it under consideration.
DeleteA couple of things -
ReplyDelete1. Classes sizes and still taking out of area children in year 5 - at what point does a class become too big or is it school policy to just accept anyone?
2. Extra classroom help - mentioned in the minutes that Shanti was applying for extra teaching assistant, is that happening?
Kevin said at the last meeting that no further out of area children will be accepted in years 3 - 6 as they are full. If the children are in area he has no choice but to take them.
DeleteShanti mentions in her email today that the community user agreement will be developed at the school council meeting - doesn't the council meeting run before the P & C meeting? As the issue of gates and security is on the agenda to be discussed at the P & C wouldn't it be better to have the outcome from the P & C ahead of the council meeting so that there is fair representation?
ReplyDeleteJudging by the letters in the Mosman Daily this week we do not appear to have the local community behind this proposal yet.
I hope you agree that this issue has been resolved?
DeleteRe: the dismissed idea of a bike and scooter rack - (which personally I feel is a great idea). Can we have more explanation around what these "health and safety" issues are regarding a kids bike please?
ReplyDeleteThere is space on site, if you want to find it.
But I'm not really getting the "safety" issue though. Please can we ask for more information on this.
When re-visiting the minutes on this it seemed as if this was a cost issue rather than a safety issue. If you would like to research costs of a bike rack and bring this to the P&C I would be happy to add it to the agenda to be considered.
Deletere: the bike/scooter rack. What about the area next to the government rd entrance? I understand that it is out of bounds during school hours, but the kids will be bringing their bikes before school and collecting them after the bell in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure what the safety issue is or was, happy to add this to the agenda if you would like to research costs and propose this?
